Sunday we “gain” an hour, and if you’re grieving, you probably already know where it’s going: straight into the dark. Suddenly the sun clocks out before dinner and the evening stretches on forever. Grief gets loud at night. Fewer distractions, more quiet, and your brain decides this is the perfect moment to replay everything. So here’s the little ritual I give my clients to make evenings a bit kinder. One minute each: 🕯 Turn on a lamp before it gets dark. Beat the dark to it. Low, warm light tells your nervous system the day is winding down on purpose. ☕️ Make something warm to hold. Tea, cocoa, hot water with lemon. Your hands want a job. 🗣 Say their name out loud. Then tell them one thing about your day. Yes, out loud. Yes, even the boring parts. They’d want the boring parts. 🔢 Find your number. On a scale of 0 to 10, where’s your energy? If you’re running hot, slow your exhale: breathe in for 4, out for 6, until you’re closer to a 5. 👟 Set one thing out for the morning. Your mug, your shoes, a sticky note. A small vote for tomorrow. The extra hour is yours. Spend it gently. Save this for Sunday night, and send it to someone who’s dreading the dark. 🖤 #grief #griefsupport #daylightsaving #eveningritual #grieftastic griefjourney grieving
