One of my biggest complaints is that the language in Forth Wing was SO modern. It did not fit the setting AT ALL.

Such a huge example of telling rather than showing the reader, like we were constantly TOLD how smart violet was, with absolutely no evidence to back that up

The nervous laughter 😭 SJM is no Pulitzer writer, but I saw a review of Crescent City that just said “not as good as fourth wing” and I….😦

Also, the whole part where jack became her sworn enemy and bullied her the whole book for no reason?? The most one-dimensional antagonist I have ever read

its set at a school. prime area for world building but almost all the classes are fade to black so we learn nothing

my biggest issue was being able to literally pull chunks from this book and place them in other books- Acotar, Red Queen, Crescent City, and Divergent to name a few

does anyone have any good dragon fantasy books? 👀 I'm not super big on romance but I don't hate it

I also hated fourth wing. knowing that the same ppl who were reading sjm and jla were hyping it should've been my warning not even to try it

I’ve added Yaros to my list of authors I won’t read. The only other hard pass author for me is COHO.

One of my grievances is how no character besides Violet and the rebel kids have ties to the war. No one lost family or their village and enrolled out of a sense if duty or protect their home/family

Is this the same book that uses Gaelic but the author refused to actually say the words correctly or something

i was given this by my sister. as soon as i read the main male character described as “well over six foot four.” i knew it was gonna be a long read. like how can you be specific and vague?

i think the thing that really shook me out of it was when violet was reciting history as a way to focus/calm down, but it wasn’t a list or anything.

I love YA & hated this book. I was just trying to get through. Writing didn’t build anything for me except wanting out.

Oh man, I have DNFed so many books where the dialogue is super unnatural for the purpose of info dumping. It's my biggest peeve.

The final straw for me was when a professor defined “griffin” to the cadets like 75% of the way through the book

In retrospect (I read it in July) I was genuinely confused by the pacing. Like so little actually happened. Same with Iron Flame (IF was g awful)
