The original cocktail came about around 1806, consisting of a strong spirit of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters. It was probably genever or some type of brandy. Later in the early 1800s, cocktails evolved, ice was used, and bartenders started making the whiskey cocktail, which was whiskey, sugar, bitters, and water. Some years later, this cocktail started changing, but folks still wanted the OG whiskey cocktail, so it ended up becoming the old-fashioned way of making a whisky cocktail. That’s some serious loose history there, but I think it’s somewhat accurate, I’m not thinking too hard this morning. #Jackdaniels
