In my country it actually is like that first calculation. We usually just give them the money in cash so the bonus doesn't get taxed nor is the worker's tax rate modified 😎👍

In the US the money made in the next quartile is taxed at the higher percentage. People think billionaires are taxes at like 45% it’s just that the money made after the 38% quartile is taxed at that.

You also loose your child benefit. So if you have 2 kids and earn 50k you take home £40.2k, but at £60k only take home 44k. Essentially 60% tax on the extra £10k.

there are different categories depending on how much you make. however, only £12,570 off your salary is free off tax so anything after will be. so if you make £50,000 you only get taxed on £37,430
