SOUTH AFRICANS ABROAD ARE STRUGGLING TO VOTE 🗳️🇿🇦 At last check over 47 333 South Africans living abroad in 101 countries have registered to vote during this years 2024 elections. Europe has 29383, Asia has 7000+ voters, Africa, North America and Oceania each have 3000-3500+ voters. In total there are said to be about 900k-1M Saffas living abroad, by my guess maybe 300k of these people are voting adults. But there’s one slight challenge: many of these countries didn’t have enough voting stations in 2019, which meant that a lot of citizens couldn’t actually vote. In Australia, there are 206 730 South Africans living and working there, but only 1268 registered, while 522 voted in the 2019 elections. Part of the problem here is there was only one voting station available in the entire country. Great Britain also only has one voting station in London. Currently, there are 234 181 South Africans living in Great Britain. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the Electoral Commission Sy Mamabolo recently announced an online system for voters living abroad, but is it a little too late?
