@huwsgarden: "A hot bed is a warmed, protected environment, created by heat generated from decomposing organic matter, used for producing early crops" Jack First (Hot bed expert and author) This year I created 3 hot beds after being inspired from visiting Jack First a few times throughout the 2022 growing season and seeing just how productive his hot bed was. They serve many benefits, but here are the 3 main benefits for me: 1 - Abundance of food during the 'hungry gap' 2 - No need to sacrifice growing space to make compost 3 - Great for growers in short seasons One of my hot beds in the Self-Sufficiency Garden has mulched a bunch of raised beds and the entire polytunnel with the most fantastic rich compost which is the end product of a season that grew around 30kg of food in that one hot bed! My channel also has two in-depth videos covering all the benefits of growing in hot beds. Now is the perfect time to start collecting material etc when there is little else to do in the garden. Imagine harvesting crops in March and April which you don't usually harvest until June and July... #gardenideas #fyp #organicgardening #compost

I’m not sure I understand. Basically are you making a compost pile garden bed? Basically planting in a compost pile?

So when you’ve fully harvested the bed, does that soil go on to become compost? Or do you replant?

This makes so much sense! When we get wood chip delivered to use on paths etc, we see it steaming on cold mornings and the middle is warm when you dig in. Realising just how much I’m wasting it now!
