Should just put the hole you’ve cut out back in with a bit of wood in the inside then fix with 3 screws and abit of filler

U always going to have a lump over it I prefer to fill inside and then blend in

I skimmed and sanded a section of wall. It’s been painted since, but the area stands out, as it’s really smooth.

would it be better getting some old plaster board and cutting the shape out and use filler for the edges? I've done this plenty of times
