GM says fluid in the transmission is for lifetime. They don’t have a specific maintenance schedule for the gears

That shaft only spins unless it’s in 4x4…… depending on what you had it when you heard it yourself. If it’s In 2wd that’s not the case, but it’s obviously leaking.

Pro tip, I'd you over fill a differential you don't hurt anything. So do what you want with that information (Yes it can leak from a vent)
