It’s easy when in your own home to tell people no eye contact no talk no touch but when your out it’s harder, I have a nervous lead and tell them 1/2

The human factor is the hardest part of that equation. Even when I work with shelter dogs, staff don't understand this & have to talk & touch 😬

This is what I do for both of mine because they’re super reactive! It works so beautifully!! Best piece of advice!

So true, spent 13 years with a nervous dog… no touch, no talk, no eye contact is hard for people.

My dog is randomly reactive to people unless they have a dog with them. He’s great with other dogs just not people. How can I help him overcome this?

We started doing this with our nervous dog and it truly works, and now saves us so much anxiety and stress just telling people to ignore him and pretend he’s not there!

Even tho I tell people who are guests in my home, they don't listen. I don't care who you are, this is my dogs home. Listen to instructions of owners

No one greets the dog until EVERYone is settled down. Nervous dog or not, it makes no sense to amp a dog up only to yell ‘settle down’ a few mins later

Love this my dog is nervous and I have trained my visitors to come in and ignore her once she settles and sits in front of them that’s when I allow them to pat her

Exactly what I tell people. Ignore him, don’t look at him and he will warm up to people.

my dog is usually very friendly with everyone. however one person he isn't sure about and growls at, does ignoring the dog in that situation apply too?

Works very well for my dog, she hates a hand in her face and I even do that when I visit others until I am told to interact with the dog
