What if I told you the only thing standing between you and perfectly pretty gathering is 1 extra stitch and some contrasting thread? How to gather fabric: 1. Set your machine to loose tension, and medium-long stitch length 2. Use a contrasting coloured thread to stitch a line of sewing down your seam allowance. Do not backstitch, and leave the thread tails long. 3. Using a coloured thread matching your fabric, stitch a line of sewing half way between your seam allowance and edge of the fabric. Do not backstitch, and leave the thread tails long. 4. Hold onto the thread from both lines of sewing from the same side of fabric. This is important in making the gathering process as easy as possible. If you grab the tails from the front AND back of the fabric it won’t gather. Choose the thread from either the front or back of the fabric. 5. Holding onto the thread firmly, slide the fabric across the thread gathering it into your desired size. 6. Secure your gathers onto your waistband with pins. 7. Sew at your seam allowance in the correct coloured thread. 8. Unpick the contrasting thread.
