Tactical voting among South Asian communities in the US and UK reveals major differences in approach despite candidate track records looking eerily similar.  While there's historically been a tendency to blindly support those who share our heritage, elections are very much the appropriate time to look beyond. By scrutinising their policies and actions just as we would anyone else. Tactical voting is important to get Project 2025 scrapped, but there should also be pressure on our candidates to meet the higher standards. And for the record, yes, we would vote for Kamala Harris, but those doing so shouldn't be ignorant to her record. The unwavering support can be confusing in regards to her ethnic identity, memes, celeb endorsements, and influential South Asian rallying that perhaps outweigh policy and funding decisions. Those of which have had serious consequences thus far. Moreover, people facing genocide don’t get to wait until the November elections and neither should the inspection of candidates.  Disregarding policies when they have the potential to save countless lives freezes the importance of liberation. The bratification of KH seemingly flattens her political track record. And holding that accountable is necessary for a truly representative democracy. Just as there’s been valid and forward criticism for leaders like Rishi Sunak, Priti Patel, and Suella Braverman for their controversial stances, we must also hold everyone accountable. In a similar way that Nikki Haley is held responsible for her position. Take, for example, Labour’s Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London and MP Zarah Sultana, who disputed the UK two-child benefit cap. Often challenging inhumane policies of their own party. Just today, Sultana being stood-down as part of her principled stance. Which seems unfair when paired next to the other injustices inflicted by South Asian politicians. Voting for Harris doesn't mean endorsing all her decisions, but pretending she's flawless is misleading. This election is about policies, and it's crucial to acknowledge the complexities involved beyond the tactical vote. #brat #kamalaharris #uselection #harris2024
