Interestingly there are examples where two distinct solutions exist, although only for squaring. Consider the case where we are looking for
x^2=x+2b^d
We can rewrite this equation as,
x(x-1)=2b^d

Base doesn’t matter. If you just cross out the first digit 2, then the only solution is Base=(“rest of number” choose 2). Say, (5 choose 2)=10.
