I feel like “The Goonies” was a better portrayal of 12-16 than most shows.

I don't like "tween" either. but science is telling us that puberty IS starting earlier than it used to. does this change parenting?

Wait I thought those Disney shows portrayed teenagers…were they about middle school this whole time? My memory isn’t what it used to be l guess!

I also think many parents treat their kids as older & encourage them with the relationships, etc. I feel they think it makes their kid in the “cool” kid group.

YES. i think it’s mostly television. Especially post pandemic. My almost 13 year old hadn’t been in a classroom with other kids since she was 10. All she’s seen is how kids act on tv not in real life

I think the "tween" TV I had was more relatable to my experience. Lizzie McGuire wasn't a sassy ahole. she had crushes but it was age appropriate

my son is 11(12 in March) and still plays with toys,no tablet or phone, monitored video games if we decide to allow it occasionally. he rather plays outside and with toys.

This!!! I hate pretty much ALL tv shows for kids. Siblings hate each other. Bullies are rampant. Parents are mean. I just hate it all!

agree 100% why were all my fellow elementary & JHS friends watching TV shows that had 20 something year olds playing HS students in TV?

I'm sure social media doesn't help either. it perpetuates these harmful stereotypes making kids think they needs to appear older than they are.

Couldn’t agree more. I also see it a lot in (primarily) AFABs bc they need to be “little mamas” and take care of everyone rather than being a kid.
