@jeeves_ny: Here are some notes from a dry cleaner and laundry nerd about DIY laundry detergent 1) The water is not necessary, all of these ingredients can be added separately into your washing machine.  2) You need to be using much much more of the powdered ingredients with this much water. Its far too diluted. My laundry booster recipes is 2 parts washing soda, 1 part baking soda, 1 part borax, 1 part sodium percarbonate. I add 1/4 cup per load into the drum before adding clothing.  3) I'd recommend using Sal's Suds by Dr. Bronners over Castile soap. Sal's Suds is designed for laundry and has 3 types of surfactants to help remove body oil (which causes body odor) and stains. You can put this into your detergent slot like normal.  4) Skip the essential oil. The essential oil addition is actually quite harmful to this recipe because soap doesn't discriminate. If it isnt water, soap molecules are going to attack it. By adding essential oil you're weakening the cleaning strength of this recipe. I'd rather you add a single drop to a wool dryer ball if your goal is scent. However you run the risk of flammability.  If it were me, I'd use the Dr. Bronners soap like you would a regular detergent and then add a 1/4 cup of your powdered laundry booster mix into the drum. This will save you a ton of time and headache compared to this recipe. Plus all of those ingredients are not designed to be mixed together so you'll likely have stability issues over time :/ Anyways, I hope this helps #laundry #laundrydetergent #detergent #athomedetergent #makeyourownlaundrydetergent #diydetergent #diylaundrydetergent #bakingsoda #washingsoda #drbronners #castilesoaplaundry #castilesoap

I’m way late to this, but could you review more eco-centered detergents? BioKleen, Molly’s Suds, 365 by Whole Foods. It’ll be hard to give up Tide, but I’m looking into less toxic detergents.
