Initially recorded as an unnatural death, the case was reclassified after her family filed a police complaint, leading to widespread media coverage and igniting nationwide protests, which began at the hospital where she was found. Local reports revealed that the victim's autopsy pointed to asphyxiation as the cause of death, with signs of SA and multiple injuries documented. Further investigation by the police led to the arrest of Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, who was seen on CCTV near the seminar room wearing a Bluetooth headset, which was found at the crime scene.
