As someone who used to be very unsure of motherhood, I can tell you that it’s totally ok to have those thoughts. It’s not reflective of the kind of mother you will be if that’s the path you choose. There’s this stereotype of how motherhood should look and I think because I couldn’t relate to those expectations, I automatically assumed I was too selfish to be a mother. When my son was born, that maternal instinct did turn on and he did became my priority. All the things I was scared of losing didn’t matter to me as much (i.e the spontaneous lifestyle). However, I worked really hard to maintain my friendships and my passions though, and I am so grateful I did. Motherhood can be lonely sometimes and having great friendships to get you out of your funk is something I’ll forever be grateful for. If you are looking for inspiration on how life can look after motherhood, welcome to my account! This was day 1 of our adventures— lots of eating, walking around, sleeping. I think minus the fact that Akshay and I had solo time together, my favorite part was getting to sleep in without an alarm. I actually got into a deep discussion with my mom about our generation of parents taking breaks/filling our cups up. While my mom enjoyed every ounce of being with Kai for the last few days, she felt we should have taken him to Chicago. My arguement with her + that generation of society + the old school mentality of how motherhood should look is that it’s ok for Akshay and I to want nights to ourselves or want to celebrate our anniversary child free. I grew up in a household where my parents never did anything for themselves and life was just a repetitive routine of work/school/activities/chores. I didn’t feel like my parents got to live their lives when they were in their 30’s/40, and it actually makes me sad (grateful for everything they did, but still sad). I get it— not everyone has the luxury of having 2 sets of grandmas to tag team and babysit our child (for free)— so this post may not be relatable to all the moms reading this. However, I think it’s so important for mothers to not have that guilt if/when they do things on their own. I love my mom and I know she says these things because she doesn’t want me to have regrets of not taking him on these adventures. However, I think our generation also has a lot more flexibility in our schedules— I don’t have a job that sucks the life out of me, I get to attend/be part of all the school activities during the day, and I feel I get to be more involved in Kai’s life than my parents were when I was a child. I love spending every second with this beautiful child, but I also think it’s so amazing that he gets to grow up with both his grandparents and create these memories of hanging out with them (and getting spoiled rotten 🤔). #MomsofTikTok #momtips #momthoughts #momtruths #motherhoodunplugged #chicago #kidfree #momlife #happymom
