Recalling one of the worst cases he’s seen, May described a home in northern B.C. coated in thick green dust from a fentanyl pill-pressing operation. “We literally left footprints when we were walking in the house,” he said. While the RCMP has spent millions disposing of chemicals seized from drug labs over the past five years, the responsibility for fully remediating the properties typically falls on property owners. Private companies like Mayken Hazmat are often called in to tackle the hazardous conditions, which May says are more toxic and harder to clean than the remnants of old marijuana grow-ops. The issue has prompted calls for consistent, provincewide rules for cleaning and restoring contaminated properties. The B.C.
