This one and ones like it are protected sectioned off canals to attract tourists. Howeverrr, countryside towns and small cities in Japan sometimes do have storm drains with gray carp and other small creatures in them. These ones have various purposes like crop irrigation. They’re not nearly as clean and crystal clear as the one pictured here but they are at least clean enough to sustain some fish 🐠 ^^ #japantravel #shirakawago #japanstormdrains #japangutters
