Ingredients: For the meat sauce: 2 tbsp olive oil 1 large onion, finely chopped 2-3 garlic cloves, minced 500g beef mince 2 tbsp tomato paste 2 cans (400g each) chopped tomatoes 1 tsp sugar 1 tsp dried oregano (or Italian herbs) Salt & black pepper, to taste For the white sauce (béchamel): 3 tbsp butter 3 tbsp flour 4 cups (1 liter) milk, warmed 1/2 tsp nutmeg (optional) Salt & pepper, to taste To assemble: 9-12 lasagna sheets 2 cups grated mozzarella cheese 1 cup grated Parmesan Method: 1. Cook the beef sauce: Heat oil in a large pan, sauté onion until soft. Add garlic, then beef mince. Cook until browned. Stir in tomato paste, tomatoes, sugar, herbs, salt & pepper. Simmer uncovered for 20-30 minutes until thick. 2. Make the white sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in flour. Gradually add warm milk while whisking until smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Cook until slightly thickened. 3. Assemble the lasagna: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Add a layer of lasagna sheets. Spread some white sauce, then sprinkle cheese. Repeat layers (meat → pasta → white sauce → cheese) until all used. Finish with white sauce on top, then cover generously with mozzarella & Parmesan. 4. Bake: Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until golden and bubbling.
