During my trip to Dublin, I met a homeless man I’ll never forget. I walked up to him and asked if he wanted something to eat or drink, and whether his dog needed any food or water. He smiled and said, “My dog always has food and water.” So I asked, “What about you?” He simply replied, “No… but that doesn’t matter as long as my baby is fed and warm.” A little while later, it started raining. He was only wearing a thin jacket. I told him he must be freezing, but he just smiled. Then he opened the only backpack he owned and pulled out a thick, warm jacket. Not for himself—for his dog. While he stood there trying to stay warm enough in the Irish cold, he carefully put the jacket on his “baby.” I’ve honestly never seen a dog on the streets look so healthy, happy, and loved. She was clean, well-fed, and completely devoted to him, just as he was to her. Every time I asked him something about himself, he changed the subject back to his dog… part 2 in replies
