FiveFingers are most definitely barefoot shoes—they’re clearly foot-shaped, and the sole is thin, flat and flexible. FiveFingers were one of the first and most well-known, but in the last decade or so, there have been so many new shoe brands that are aimed at letting your foot stay in it’s barefoot position. The goal is to let the feet and body function naturally, and you can do that by having separate spots for all the toes, or just by having a wider toe box.
