@flynn.skidmore: Your self awareness might actually be an addiction to shame 👋🏼 I have spent much of my life addicted to shame and feeling bad. What I now know is that the parts of me who were addicted to shame REALLY believed they needed to be ashamed in order to keep me safe. The work is about meeting those parts lovingly, feeling them, and helping them learn better ways 💗 One of the keys to understanding this is learning to make the distinction between self-intellectualization and self-understanding Here’s the tool i shared at the end of the video: Self intellectualization, which is often a symptom of shame, asks “why?” 👉🏼 Why am I like this? 👉🏼 why are other people like this? 👉🏼 why is this happening? 👉🏼 why do I feel this way? Why keeps you trapped in your head (which you unconsciously do because you’re terrified of feeling your body) and ensures the materials of your unconscious stay locked away. Self understanding is about a deeply felt and intimate relationship with your inner world. Self understanding asks “what?” 👉🏼 “what am I feeling?” 👉🏼 “what do I want to feel?” 👉🏼 “what’s important to me and what do I value?” 👉🏼 “what’s happening and what do I want to happen? What gets clear on what’s happening in the here and now, allows you to move toward and feel what you are feeling, and helps you get imaginative and creative about how you want to use what is happening now to create what you want in the future 💗 #shame #cptsd #transformation #selfawareness #stuck

I have always claimed to be extremely self aware, but I don’t know myself at all. I struggle to name some of my favorite things.

Self intellectualization is organic to the path of self understanding ? Different levels of consciousness ?

What's important to me, is understanding why I'm like this.

I still think “why” is important, it got me diagnosed with ADHD and into trauma therapy. You just don’t want to overuse the “why” as a coping mechanism. I’m ready to move into the “what”

Ah, so instead of asking WHY am I like this… I should be asking WHAT… is wrong with me? 🤪

The self intellectualizing is necessary for me to reach the understanding state, I don’t see them as opposite but rather part of the same healing proc

I’m autistic and have always been this way — even from my first memories when I was 3-4. I thought I was just incredibly self aware but in some ways—

I think the healthiest option is a balance of both. It's not always an either/or situation.

I get what your saying because though I was growing and changing a big piece to my puzzle was allowing myself to make mistakes. Being okay with not being perfect.

Interesting..”why” tends to focus on the past while the “what” questions trend towards the future..💡
