@physics.class: This effect is due to what is called "Resonance" or "Resonance frequency" Resonance occurs when the forcing frequency (external frequency source) equals the natural frequency. This requires the forcing frequency to have the exact same value as the natural frequency of the targeted object (not more nor less). There's a common misconception amongst some people who think resonance with also occur if the forcing frequency is greater than the natural frequency, which is not the case.
