In the YSL trial on Monday, Tick testified that his grandmother paid $50,000 to Atlanta-based attorney Thomas Flugum, but Flugum ended up not being able to do the trial because his wife got cancer. Flugum returned $25,000, and Tick’s grandmother hired Kristi Gladden. Tick then ended up taking the plea agreement that has him testifying as a prosecution witness. The deal let him out of jail on probation for eight years. Steel is trying to show the jury that Tick took a plea deal out of necessity. He wanted to go to trial, but the lawyer who was going to do the trial ended up not being able to do it. Steel asks about his new lawyer to try to show Tick was motivated to plead guilty not because he's actually guilty, but because the judicial system was basically stacked against him.
