Its body was a jagged mass of iron-hard carapace and bone, roaring as it tore apart lesser Hollows, driven mad by an insatiable hunger for power. Ulquiorra didn't flinch. Without a sound, he stepped off the ledge, falling through the pale light before landing effortlessly on the fine white sand. The giant creature snapped its head toward him, yellow eyes burning with wild aggression.

Its massive, razor-sharp claws ripped through the air, aimed directly at Ulquiorra's neck with speed that would have pulverized a lesser spirit. Ulquiorra didn't even draw Murciélago. With a effortless flicker of Sonído, he vanished, reappearing instantly above the beast's head. The creature swung wildly upward, but Ulquiorra simply raised his left hand, stopping the giant claw with a single green-gloved finger. The impact cratered the sand beneath them, but Ulquiorra remained completely unmoved. "Is this the extent of your strength?" Ulquiorra asked softly. "Trash." Before the creature could pull back, Ulquiorra extended his pointer finger. A tiny pinprick of emerald light flared at his fingertip. Cero. A brilliant beam of green spiritual energy erupted, tearing through the beast's chest and blasting a miles-long trench into the desert behind it. The force blew away the clouds of sand, revealing the sky above. The creature stumbled backward, the hole in its chest disintegrating into black particles. It fell to its knees, gasping, looking up at the pale figure hovering above it. "W-What... are you...?" the Hollow choked out, its mind failing to grasp the sheer chasm in their power. Ulquiorra descended slowly, his dark green eye-like irises fixed on the fading beast. "I am the 4th Espada," he said, stepping past the dying creature without looking back. "And you are nothing." The beast dissolved into fine black ash, scattered immediately by the hollow wind of Hueco Mundo. Ulquiorra turned his face toward the fake sky of Las Noches, placing his hand over his own chest—where the hollow hole sat empty. There was no joy in victory, no satisfaction in power. There was only the quiet, cold truth of Despair.
