@hchitv: Replying to @Danny They also refinanced in those 10 years which lowered their monthly payment. Has your landlord ever lowered your rent? #rentvsbuy #buyvsrent #rentingvsbuying #buyingahouse #firsttimehomebuyer #baltimorerealtor #realestatetiktok #hchitv
Don’t forget, if you rent your are at the mercy of the landlord.

only if their mortgage was equal or less than their rent. saving an extra $1500 per month by renting for 10 years is $180,000 savings too

Bought a house in 2017 for $340k, 2021 sold it for $500k. Put in ~$50k of updates over 4 years like a new lawn, fixed sewer line, ground the wiring, updated light fixtures, new floors & paint

Interest rates are so high, that the difference between a mortgage and rent right now if saved might yield a similar result for the renter. This is especially true in expensive housing markets.

Real Estate is a great investment over rent. Our house has more than doubled in value in a short period of time.

There is also something to be said about interest and property taxes being deductible every year

I always consider owning a home as more of a forced savings account. Between interest and repairs you may break even but it forced you to save money at least

1. you're right..you get more than 160k. I rented a house for 10 years that mortgage would be 8K & rent avg 4K for same house.

You're not telling the full story here. If they got a check for 160k that means they paid 60k to the principle via EXTRA payments or a fat down payment.
