@fryrsquared: There's a curiously strange phenomenon when you look at the data for the ratio of baby boys to baby girls. For a start, slightly more boys are born than girls. (A biologist told me this was evolution's correction for the fact that little boys are more likely to get into accidents). But also there are peaks in quite notable places. This pattern is not unique to Britain. Around the world, at the end of a war, there is a spike in the number of baby boys that are born. There are subtle differences between X and Y sperm. The theory is that the conditions which vary over her cycle, like temperature and acidity and hormone levels, favour some sperm over others at different times. If earlier in the cycle favours Y sperm, then more sex is more likely to catch that window. And if you're already pregnant (with a boy) then you can't get pregnant later in the cycle when conditions favour X sperm. #puzzle #math #data #babiesoftiktok
My mum and dad always told me I was a 'power cut baby'. A miners' strike and 'winter of discontent' in early 1972 left people in the dark and cold looking for something to do. I was born in late 1972.

This is very interesting. I had twins, a girl and a boy so perhaps my body was just confused about what time in my cycle it was 😅

I would like to see if there is a peak around about 2021/2 after the lockdown.

What do you mean with earlier in their cycles? Conception can take plac when ovulating and that’s on average 2 weeks after the first day of the period

Where is the scale, without knowing that how do we know it’s changing dramatically? There will also be differences as outcome doesn’t equals odds.

you've not actually explained why, you've just described the data. Why do the chances subtly change based on the point in the cycle?

So it’s not because of the testosterone levels or changes in stress levels… or impact of rationing and dietary changes..
