Nah my grandma did this for me and I’m eternally grateful. Got out of college, bought a car with low interest and no co-signer. Definitely doing this for my kid.

Yessss also you as a parent have to keep that card forever or else it will hurt your child’s score. Just have them start from scratch at 18.

I opened a cc for my son at 18 with his knowledge but didn't give him the card. I only used it for gas and paid it off every month...4 years later he moved out got his own car and apartment with me having to cosign for him. his credit score better than mine...lol

my mom had me open a credit card at 16.. and she would give me a monthly snack budget .. she paid for it with that card and she purchased and paid for it herself.. by the time I graduated highschool and got the card myself I had a great history.. and score
