SAVE THIS POST 📌 Tip # 1: Don’t start on Etsy! Start on Pinterest. When I’m working with someone on an art curation for their home, it’s always where we begin. What’s your interior design style, and what type of art do you see in spaces that you love? What are the common themes in terms of medium, style, color, etc.? 2) Get specific in your search terms. Once you know your style preferences, get specific. “antique oil portrait," "original figural sketch,” “playful modern ceramic” — these will get you closer to the art you want. 3) Teach the algorithm. Get the Etsy app and let it learn what you like. “Favorite” art that you like. “Favorite” artists who you like. Teach it your art style and it will not only keep you updated when artists release new work, but the app will make better recommendations for you.  4) Don’t sleep on other mediums. Expand your horizons beyond just paintings. Search for oil pastels, charcoal drawings, ceramics, glass art... These seem to be less frequently searched than paintings, so you can find affordable hidden gems. 5) When scale matters, search standard sizes. If you’re looking for something huge to make a statement, it can be hard to filter for size. For paintings, try using standard canvas sizes as search terms (i.e. 24x36, 30”x40”). (But don’t forget that teeny art can pack a punch, too (see: glass cherry bebe 🍒) 6) Filter by price, but not the way you think… everybody sets a max price limit, but setting a lower limit can help filter out prints, mass produced canvases, and other things you perhaps aren’t looking for. I like to set a filter for a $50 minimum. Most artists aren’t selling *original* art for less than $50. Are there exceptions? Of course! And if you put in the time, you can find some gems. Happy art shopping 🥰 🖼️
