@nowthis: Lava flows through evacuated town in Iceland A volcano in southwestern Iceland erupted for the second time in less than a month, sending molten lava flowing through the evacuated town of Grindavík, engulfing several homes. Iceland’s President Gudni Jóhannesson posted that no lives were in danger as a result of the eruption. One Grindavík resident said that as he watched his new home be destroyed live on television, all he could do was ‘burst out laughing.’ Another told local news, ‘Seeing your home burn down on live television is something you cannot easily handle.’ Scientists said that the eruption seemed to be dying down as of January 16. However, Iceland’s Meteorological Office stated that ‘it is difficult to estimate how long this eruption will last.’ The volcano’s previous eruption occurred on December 18, 2023, but the lava flowed away from Grindavík, and its residents were able to return home shortly after on December 22. #WatchThis #lava #volcanoeruption #iceland #worldnews
