CECROPIA PELTATA We finally got to taste the viral Gummy Worm Fruit! 🤩🤩 As we were planning our recent trip to Miami, I had my heart set on getting to try the Gummy Worm Fruit, which I’d seen featured on several Instagram accounts based around the Miami area. I reached out to the @fruithunters and was so excited when they told me the season was just ending but there was still a high chance of getting to try it! Gummy Worm Fruits are native to Central America and are not a fruit we have ever seen in SE Asia. They are an incredibly fast-growing tree and are listed in the top 100 worst invasive alien species, so it’s probably best they don’t hop the pond! But wow are they cool! I’m still kind of obsessed with them 🤭 I was surprised how fragile & juicy the fruits are. They grow in dangling clusters and it’s somehow really satisfying to pull them off their fleshy cores. They are hollow inside, speckled with tiny seeds like a strawberry that crunch and get stuck in your teeth. I thought they smelled and tasted a lot like grapes, pretty juicy and reasonably sweet, but nothing like a densely sweet, chewy gummy worm. Apparently, these are usually sold in local markets as a dried fruit. I would love to try that! I bet the flavors would condense and get sweeter, and dried fruit is always chewier and more like a gummy worm in texture. So maybe that’s where they get the name! Getting to taste these fruits was definitely a highlight of our trip to Miami, as was finally getting to meet Jess & Sal from the Fruithunters Co, as we’ve been following their account for a long time. Thanks so much guys! 🙏🤩 👉 If you’ve tried the Gummy Worm Fruit, tell us about it in the comments below! Is it worth the hype? #Foodie #foodporn #fruit #miami #vegan
