Connie Evans was murdered on October 24, 1964. She was born Mary Constance Evans, but went by Connie. Shortly after 1pm on October 24, 1964, Connie left her home and began walking to meet a friend. When she didn't show up, the police were notified and began a preliminary search of the area. State police used bloodhounds in an attempt to track Connie's location. The dogs found “a very good scent” and followed it until it ended abruptly. Police theorized that Connie may have gotten into or was forced into a car at that point. Three massive searches followed over a few days. Hundreds of police, firemen, and volunteers took part in each, but nothing was found. More than $2,000 in rewards were announced for information about Connie's whereabouts. On November 30, 1964, a man named Joseph Celsi was walking his two dogs and looking for pine cones to use in Christmas decorations. Celsi spotted what looked like a “freshly dug hole” behind a 25-foot pine tree. He noticed lots of brown hair around the hole and thought that a dog had gotten hold of a woodchuck. When he looked closer, Celsi noticed "a pinkish, round object, devoid of hair except on the fringes.” He began prodding it with a stick and uncovered part of a body. Then he flagged down a car and called the police. A swarm of officers raced to the area in four automobiles. Detective Eugene Sharpe first noticed a portion of skull and some hair protruding from the earth. The rest of the body was covered. Lying nearby was a small piece of blue cloth, part of the blue-and-white blouse Connie had been wearing. A shoe was found about 30 feet from the grave. Connie was lying on her side, dressed only in her bra and blouse. The rest of her undergarments and her blue jeans were found beneath her body. She was still wearing her friendship ring. The coroner noted there were other discolorations on Connie’s neck besides bruises, and stated, “the marks were in the right places, if you were to strangle someone.” Connie's body was taken to the hospital and underwent a four-hour autopsy. The findings confirmed she had been strangled to death, but it could not be determined if she was sexually assaulted. Months, and eventually years passed with no leads. After two years, the DA said of Connie's case: "We're still struggling with that one. It keeps bothering me." The file on Connie's murder eventually surpassed 2,000 pages. In 2011, a private detective named Eileen Law, who was 11 years old and local to the area when Connie was murdered, claimed to have solved the case. Along with two retired police officers, Law concluded that the killer had been questioned early-on by police. Someone had seen a man driving erratically with his arm locked around a young girl's neck. The description matched a convicted rapist and child molester. From a photo lineup, the witness ID'd him as the man in the car. The man had been interviewed by police and repeatedly denied involvement in Connie's murder. In the end, he was let go for insufficient evidence. He was never charged and died in the 1980s. Law eventually discovered that the man had two residences: one around the corner from Connie's house, and the other a block from where her body was found. Connie was murdered on her 15th birthday. #grave #cemetery #mausoleum #graves #cemeteries #cemeteryexplorer #cemeteryexplorers #famous #famouspeople #famousgraves #famousgrave #graveyard #gravephotographer #gravestone #gravestones #taphophile #taphophilia #celebritygraves #murder #murdervictim #murdervictims #murdervictimsawareness #unsolved #unsolvedcases #unsolvedcasefiles #unsolvedcrime #unsolvedcrimes #truecrimetiktok #truecrime #truecrimecommunity #truecrimetok
