This is one of the few areas I feel like android has failed. The keyboard is its own application so having it talk to the apps apparently isn't easy.>

dark mode is meant to be used as a time of day switching event, so all apps wil join the system theme, and it will automatically switch themes at certain times of day

Comments here are so funny. Like the main argument for android is “it’s open to customization”, yet suddenly people say “don’t expect it to be customizable”. 😭
