Although the exact name “Zuljanah” is not found in early historical or hadith sources, it has become widely accepted and revered in Shi’a tradition and mourning processions, symbolizing loyalty, sacrifice, and devotion. ⸻ 🕊 Historical & Religious Background 1. The Horse’s Real Name • Early Islamic texts do not clearly mention the name of Imam Hussain’s horse. • Some traditions refer to names like “Murtajiz” or “Qaswa”, but “Zuljanah” is the title most recognized in popular Shi’a culture. 2. Meaning of “Zuljanah” • The word Zuljanah literally means “one with two wings”, a symbolic title to represent the noble, almost angelic nature of the horse. • It reflects the belief that the horse had spiritual qualities, loyalty, and shared in the tragedy of Karbala. 3.
