In 1995, they recorded and released their first hit, Da Funk, which put them on the map internationally. A year later they signed with Virgin Records after an intense bidding war. The quality of their music led to a lot of hype and they used it to sign deals on their terms. As part of their contract negotiations, their music was licensed through their own production company Daft Trax, putting them in the driver's seat.
