@floriangadsby: Sprinkling iron spangles into my stoneware clay during the wedging process, (think of this like kneading but with the aim of removing air pockets and blending the body so it’s very even in texture). This larger mass was then separated into a piece for the body and a lump for the lid. These specks of iron don’t affect the throwing very much, I barely even feel them, and once this pot has been trimmed, glazed and reduction fired, they’ll simply make the pot appear more speckled. In some cases, these dots of iron will melt to the surface of the glaze and begin to flow down the angular walls in larger metallic drips, whereas others will remain trapped in glass, clouded over as tiny black dots. It’s worth knowing that in oxidation you may very well not get the same results, as iron is refractory in this atmosphere. I have no way of knowing how exactly this pot will look once fired, I have a rough idea, of course, but with a such a small amount of additional metal the outcome won’t be too drastic, although I may be doing some more interesting tests soon with the addition of other types of metals. #pottery #wheelthrownpottery #ceramics #potteryvideos #wedging #vase
