@nihongo_hongo: Q&A below👇 Q.Would workers be offended if I leave or hand tip in Japan? A.They never be offended at all. They even appreciate your kindness. However, they just get confused what to do with money. It's because they are not used to reciving money in Japan. Q.What's going to happen if I just leave tip on the table and left the restaurant/bar? A.Chances are, At first workers would try to find you to return money. Because they think you just leave it "unintentionally." If they couldn't find you, the money will be stored in the restaurant as"lost item" Won't be anyones money. Q.What's going to happen if I hand money directly to a worker? A, in the most of case, I think they'll refuse first. If you still insist, they might talk to their boss asking whether it's okay to recive or not, and good luck it depends on the boss. Q.But I really want to give them tips cuz I was amazed by their food and service. A.In that case, kindly ask them if they'd accept tip or not before you suddenly give it to them. otherwise they'll get confused what to do. Some might accept it. Most of them would not but still appreciate your deed. Q.They say "No" what should I do? A.You could treat them with some drinks from their menu. Alcohol wouldn't be acceptable but really depends on the restaurant. If it's a bar, they'll definitely take it! Q,100% of Japanese restaurant/bars won't accept tip? A.I am aware that there are Bars and restaurant that accept tip. Especially those for tourists from overseas and fancy ones, but it's definitely minority. If you can't tell, you might want to ask them beforehand. Those Q&A is made out of my experience. I used to work in hospitality industry in Japan for long time so I'm quite sure they're right, but others would have different opinion so please be flexible for different opinion.
