Zak's Financial Chat :
ask the clerk at the assessors office how others have faired trying to appeal. Or ask some of your neighbors if they have tried.

You have to fight for it at the tax assessors office? It’s not as easy as you think.

Attempted this once, for the home value it was $500 for the Board to review. They stated they were more likely to raise it than lower it! 🤔

I have a 2 bedroom/2 bath and there are none that have sold in the last year out here. Not sure how I’d fight the tax assessment in that case.

In my area you have to pay for full property assessment (usually $600+) then fill out appeal then go in front of appeal board

Your property taxes ARE NOT based on your assessed value. They are based on your taxable value

You can only contest your assessed value at BOARD OF REVIEW. Not your taxes

Also ask for a copy of the tax card to double check square footage. I have seen people taxed for square footage they don’t have due to false dormers, unfinished basement, etc.

Zak's Financial Chat :
be aware that most counties have a property tax appeal time, usually a 2-3 week period each year. You can call them to get this appeal window.
