People think saving means cutting everything (including the things they love). It’s not. Here’s what I didn’t cut while saving: 1. Good coffee. I make most of my coffee at home because i’m deeply in love with my espresso machine, but I still love grabbing coffee when i’m out (usually to support local or try a new seasonal drink!) 2. Vacations. I love Europe. I love Mexico. I love travel. I have taken a trip at least once a year since I started professionally working and visited at least 10+ countries. Travel doesn’t have to be expensive, especially when it’s planned intentionally. 3. Experiences. Experiences are more valuable to me than things. I’d rather go to a concert with a friend than buy a new lamp for every room in my apartment. I’d rather spend money on a day trip than buy another pair of shoes I’ll barely wear because I already have too many. 4. Eating Out. I love food. I want to eat all the food at all the new restaurant and frequent my favourites at the same time. For me it’s quality over quantity. I’d rather try that swanky new Mexican place with the bomb looking tacos than eat at MacDonalds for lunch every day. Choose your frequency, choose your adventure—maybe than means cutting back, but not cutting it out completely. 5. A Car. Okay, so I didn’t save 20% of my income the year I bought my car, but my savings from previous years allowed me to buy it outright so I didn’t have a car payment (I know, I know, 2018 Megan didn’t consider opportunity cost). Saving isn’t about restriction. It’s about prioritization. It’s not an all or nothing equation, it’s a rebalancing. You really can spend and save at the same time. Direct your money to the things that really matter to you, with intention. Just remember that future you matters too. What’s something you refuse to cut? #valuebasedintentionalspending #savingwithoutsacrifice #investingforfinancialfreedom #personalfinancemoneymindsets #moneytok
