I’ve been getting a ton of questions about higher frequency training lately, as well as my opinion on it, so here it is.

As of right now, I believe a higher frequency approach is better than a lower frequency approach (even when volume is equated). I think the data is pretty compelling at this point and is consistent with what we know from a mechanism standpoint. Is it a hill I am willing to die on? No. There are no hills I’m really willing to die on, especially since context is so important and this is just lifting weights we’re talking about. I just go with what the data, my experience/anecdote, and my logic currently tells me.

In this video, I am speaking in terms of “weeks”, but the concept applies generally: the more often you can train a muscle (when it’s RECOVERED) with being inhibited by fatigue from prior sets, the more growth stimulus you can produce.

This is why I always program priority muscles twice per week in my groups. It’s also why I like to use splits with my 1:1 clients that aren’t necessarily predicated on days of the week, because we can train a muscle more frequently, according to it’s recoverability. Join my online training groups for ~$1/day designed for beginner to advanced lifters where we implement research-backed training principles to ensure progress. Real-time programming done by me + access to me for questions and video review Sub the YouTube channel!
