@historishhh: Living in Metro Manila might make you think there's nothing left to surprise you, but nestled between Pasig City Hall and Mega Market stands an old tower with a unique twist—it has a revolving floor. Meet the Mutya ng Pasig, a hidden gem that's been around since the '70s. Built in 1974, it thrived under Emiliano R. Caruncho, Jr.'s administration, offering multiple levels of shops and a rotating restaurant on top. Back then, it was a hotspot in a flat part of Pasig City. Interestingly, there was only one other rotating restaurant in Metro Manila, at the top of the Royal Hotel in Quiapo, Manila, which closed down in the '80s. Sadly, the Mutya ng Pasig Tower faced a similar fate during the turbulent '80s economic crisis. Due to tenants being unable to pay rent, the tower's operations halted, and it became abandoned, serving various purposes from a government office to a storage area and even a detention center. Although everyday operations ceased, the upper floors are now available for rent for events, with a coffee shop, viewing deck, and the revolving restaurant still intact. A full revolution takes about one hour and fifteen minutes, offering panoramic views of Pasig City. Despite its tumultuous past, the Mutya ng Pasig Tower stands as one of the few remaining Brutalist towers, retaining its unique architecture even after a fresh paint job during restoration.
