Retired makeup artist here! Do not submerge your brushes in water it will loosen up the adhesive holding the metal and wood part together.

Zote might be too harsh for your makeup brushes and cause them to shed more. It’s originally a laundry detergent soap. So try a gentle dive bar soap or something like that instead.
