In Canada, there's a max. time length you can spend in each Province & when reaching that limit, you must change your licence. Is this the same in US?

We got stopped when we were visiting my family in the states for not having a license plate on the front of our vehicle. I’m from Alberta we only need one on the back. The cop was so confused. Lol
