𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 National forests cover 193 million acres across the U.S., providing critical habitats, clean water, and recreation opportunities. Each year, national forests receive approximately 170 million visits, offering spaces for hiking, camping, fishing, and other outdoor activities. With increased visitation and decreased funding, these lands face growing challenges that impact both the environment and visitor experience. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐨 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐃𝐨? National forest rangers work tirelessly to protect these lands and keep them accessible for the public. Their responsibilities include: * Wildfire Prevention & Firefighting: Responding to and managing wildfires, conducting controlled burns, and educating visitors on fire safety. * Trail & Facility Maintenance: Clearing fallen trees, repairing trails, and maintaining campgrounds. * Public Safety & Search and Rescue: Assisting lost or injured hikers, enforcing park regulations, and responding to emergencies. * Wildlife & Habitat Protection: Monitoring ecosystems, preventing poaching, and managing endangered species recovery efforts. * Visitor Services: Educating the public, leading interpretive programs, and ensuring facilities like restrooms and picnic areas remain clean and accessible.
