Gave this rescue a try expecting it not to survive. This Calathea was as rough as they can get. And even though I wasn’t sure what he had been through, I figured I would give him another chance. This is how I did it: -I started by removing the pot to inspect the roots. Most were still healthy and intact so I removed most of the existing soil. -Then I created the perfect soil mix consisting of coir, bark and perlite. The coir would help hold the water and the bark and perlite for drainage and aeration. -I then took a clear pot and planted him making sure to plant him at the same level he was at in the previous pot. -Since he’s been in this new pot I water about once a week when about 50% of the soil is dry. -When I water I like to place the plant in a bowl, water from the top making sure the entire surface area gets water and then let him sit in the water for about 15 minutes.
