Dealing with heel pain? It might be plantar fasciitis—a common cause of foot or heel pain 🦶🏼 Plantar fasciitis is a common condition characterized by degeneration of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot, connecting the heel bone to the toes. It often presents as sharp heel pain, particularly noticeable with the first steps in the morning or after prolonged periods of sitting. The condition typically arises due to repetitive strain, overuse, weak intrinsic foot muscles or improper footwear. Diagnosis is primarily clinical, based on a patient’s history and a physical examination. Imaging tests, such as X-rays or MRI, may be used in persistent cases to rule out other issues. Treatment focuses on relieving pain, increasing the strength of the muscles in the foot and ankle and improving collagen synthesis to aid in the repair of the plantar fascia.  Our treatment protocol at the clinic is a combination of shockwave therapy once weekly for 4-6 weeks, manual soft tissue release techniques and dry needling. Rehabilitation exercises are prescribed and vary from patient to patient. They generally involve range of motion exercises, stretching and strengthening exercises for the intrinsic muscles of the foot and calf It’s always good idea to consult a healthcare professional.  Remember, taking action early can prevent further issues down the road! 📲 Book an appointment online through our website.
