Replying to @user5225667491580 Method & Tips ⬇️ 1/ Source a 60-75L bin: available for around $20-30 at most hardware stores. 2/ Using a large drill-bit (~20-25mm), drill holes all around the sides of the bin. Space roughly 15cm apart so as not to impact stability of the bin. (Leave bin lid on to support the shape while handling). 3/ Use a saw to remove the base of the bin. Collect all plastic shavings to recycle through someone like @PreciousPlastics 4/ Again with the lid on so it holds its shape, twist the bin into its location so its cut sides are buried ~4-5cm. (If you have pest issues, you may like to add rodent proof mesh to the base before positioning bin.) 5/ Fill the base of bin with a deep layer of carbon materials, and away you go! Benefits of this system: ✅ It’s small enough to fit in lots more locations than larger compost bins ✅ If you have several on the go, you can access mature compost more often ✅ Volume generated in each bin is easy to manage (roughly 1 barrow-load) ✅ Can be set-up in the middle of garden beds without taking too much space ✅ Easy to disassemble when it comes to moving. Contents can be bagged or dispersed and bins stack neatly. ✅Much less expensive outlay than traditional compost bins Tips for composting in a rental permaculture garden * Be realistic! If you know you’ll only have a short lease, look at small and/or portable solutions (bokashi, small worm farm/tower, tumbler bin, or simply burying scraps), or alternatives to home composting (council FOGO bin, @sharewaste partnership) * If you’ve got 12 months with an undisrupted summer, probably best to aim for a hot compost set-up, as it’ll have time to break down the larger volume (1x1x1m) and cure in time for you to use/transport easily. * If you have 12 months but know you’ll be moving in the hotter months, possibly best to opt for a smaller cold compost system like these bins
