My sweet Lana suffered from a heat stroke yesterday. Our AC unit went out on Sunday and the inside of our house was about 87 degrees. We had fans on and were doing our best to keep everyone as cool as possible. She is doing okay now and we did find out she has a heart issue which made her at greater risk! I never in a million years thought this could of happened but we went to the vet and I got some information I wanted to share! Please be careful out there with your fur babies! How to Keep Your Dog Cool in Hot Weather 1. Provide Constant Access to Fresh Water • Keep water bowls full and place them in shaded, cool areas. • Use ice cubes in the water or give your dog ice treats. 2. Avoid Midday Walks • Walk your dog early in the morning or late in the evening when it’s cooler. • Hot pavement can burn paws—use your hand to test the ground. 3. Never Leave Your Dog in a Parked Car • Even with windows cracked, the temperature can rise to deadly levels in minutes. 4. Offer Shade and Ventilation • If outside, make sure your dog has access to shade and airflow. • Use fans, cooling mats, or damp towels. 5. Keep Them Indoors on Very Hot Days • Use fans or AC if possible. • Limit physical activity and avoid overly warm rooms. 6. Groom Wisely • Keep long-haired dogs brushed regularly to prevent matting, which traps heat. • Do not shave double-coated breeds, as their coat insulates them from heat. 7.
