@juliarose.md: I took the MCAT for the first time the summer after my sophomore year of college, before even taking biochem, which was a huge mistake. I ended up with a 507, which I considered applying with, but ultimately ended up retaking over winter break of my junior year because I knew that I could do better. I was able to raise my score 10 points and even went on to be an MCAT instructor for a big name test prep company that following summer. . I was in such a rush to avoid taking a gap year for no good reason and almost compromised getting into med school because of how stubborn I was. Luckily the pressure of a second attempt made me study 10x harder than I had the first time around and it paid off, but I was definitely sweating for a few months!
