Why a Statue of Mary Is Idolatry God’s Word is very clear about images in worship. The Second Commandment says: 📖 “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above… Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them” (Exodus 20:4–5). That includes statues of Mary, saints, or even angels. Bowing, kneeling, or praying before an image—no matter how “holy” it seems—is idolatry in God’s eyes. Catholic teaching claims that statues are “aids” to devotion, not idols. But the Bible makes no such distinction. God never said, “It’s okay if the image is of someone righteous.” In fact, Israel fell into idolatry whenever they mixed truth with images—even if they claimed it was for worshiping the true God (Exodus 32:4–5). Mary herself would never accept worship. She said, “My soul doth magnify the Lord” (Luke 1:46). She always pointed to Christ, never to herself. The Bible teaches that only Jesus is our Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5). To give prayers, devotion, or reverence to a statue of Mary is to rob Christ of the worship that belongs to Him alone. The first angel’s message warns us to “worship Him that made heaven, and earth” (Revelation 14:7). Any worship directed elsewhere—whether to idols of stone, wood, or even plaster statues—is a counterfeit. True love for Mary means respecting her example of humble faith, not exalting her with the very idolatry God condemns. Statues of Mary are not symbols of honor; they are violations of God’s law. 👉 “Little children, keep yourselves from idols” (1 John 5:21). . www.theadventtruth.com . #Jesus #maryworship #seventhdayadventist #catholic #theadventtruth
